Shell casing found at West Warwick middle school

PROVIDENCE (WLNE)- An investigation remains ongoing after an empty shell casing was found at John F. Deering Middle School in West Warwick, police announced Tuesday.

West Warwick police reviewed surveillance footage and completed a survey of the building and found no immediate threat to students and those in the area.

A message was delivered to parents informing them of the presence of the shell.

School administration and police will continue to investigate to determine a motive and the source, according to the statement from West Warwick Police Chief Mark Knott and Superintendent Karen Tarasevich.
