UPDATE: Teen identified in Providence shooting that also injured toddler

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – An 18-year-old and a 2-year-old were injured after a shooting around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in Providence.

The teenager, identified as Christian Michaud of Providence, was in the passenger seat of the car while the toddler was in the back seat at the time of the shooting.

The two were hit by gunfire on Pleasant Valley Parkway in the area of Dean Street.

According to Major David Lapatin of the Providence Police Department, the 21-year-old driver of the vehicle, who is also the father of the toddler, was not hit.

He rushed his passengers to the hospital where they were treated.

For a short period of time patients and visitors at Hasbro Children’s Hospital were diverted to Rhode Island Hospital’s entrance as police investigated their vehicle in the hospital’s driveway.

Police tell us the toddler was shot in the foot and is expected to be okay.

As of Wednesday morning, Michaud is in serious but stable condition.

Police are searching for a suspect and a motive at this time. The investigation is still ongoing.
