Sixth Bristol Co. corrections officer tests positive for COVID-19

Bristol County

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A sixth corrections officer form the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office has tested positive for COVID-19,  according to a statement the office released Thursday.

The employee left the Bristol County House of Corrections in Dartmouth after falling ill Sunday, and was tested later that day. The employee received notice  of a positive result the following day.

Three other employees have since recovered from the virus and returned to work, according to the statement. Two others, and the most recent, are expected to make a full recovery.

“There have been almost 2,000 confirmed cases of the virus in Bristol County overall,” Sheriff Thomas Hodgson said. “We feel very fortunate that every staff member who has tested positive at the Sheriff’s Office has either made a full recovery and returned to duty or is feeling okay and expected back soon.”

To date, no prisoners have tested positive at the facility. According to the sheriff’s office, eight prisoners have been tested and received negative results.
