Slick roads cause multiple spin outs on RI roadways over night
By: Melissa Randall
State police say Wednesdays melting and then refreezing during night hours contributed at least four accidents including a six car spin out on I-95 which closed the highway for about 20 minutes.
Several of the accidents happened right in the same area in Providence. One spin out caused a chain reaction involving 6 cars on 95 near Eddy Street right around midnight. Several people were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries.
State police worked other crashes around the same time including a spin out on the northbound side of Thurbers curb, a spin out on 146 North off of 95, and a rollover on route 10 at Reservoir.
The DOT was called out to treat the roadways in the Providence metro area. State police do not expect slick roads to impact the AM commute.
State police say while patches of ice are partially to blame for the accidents other factors also contributed. In each case Troopers say the driver was speeding and going around a curve.
