Smithfield keeps Little League World Series hopes alive with win over New Jersey
SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Smithfield Little League kept their World Series hopes alive on Wednesday night.
The dream lived on for the All Stars after they knocked off East Hanover, New Jersey to advance into the Metro Region Finals.
Smithfield jumped out to an early lead, with three runs crossing the plate in the top of the first. It was capped off by an RBI single by Cam Charlemagne, making it 3-0.

New Jersey got three runs back of their own, with two coming home on the RBI single by Ryan Cheringal, bring it to 3-3.
The boys from Rhode Island got the lead back shortly after and didn’t give up the rest of the way.
Smithfield’s Connor Curtis hit a solo home run to left field to make it 7-4.

Rhode Island’s 10-5 win brought them one victory away from a trip to Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The team will be back in Bristol, Connecticut for the regional championship against Massapequa, New York on Friday.
A loss would eliminate them from the competition.
