Smithfield Little League gets ready for first game of World Series

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Islanders will cheer on the boys from Smithfield as they have their first game in the Little League World Series on Tuesday.

The first pitch for the representatives of the Metro Region is set for 3 p.m. where they will take on the Nevada state championships out of the Mountain Region.

Opening ceremonies start at 11 a.m. — where the teams will walk into the stadium together with a banner that shows they are the champions of their division.

The Rhody boys have had a hectic past few days, from winning the Metro Region Tournament on Friday night, driving to Pennsylvania, and taking part in the grand slam parade through Williamsport.

The team finally had some down time Tuesday, warming up the arms and spending some time with their families.

Smithfield has rallied around them, holding a pep rally at Deerfield Park and fundraising efforts for the team, including special green and gold drinks at Laura’s Bar and Grill.
