SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — Smithfield welcomed back the U12 All-Star Team from their Little League World Series trip with a celebration at Deerfield Park.
The celebration included a parade, inflatables, games and other activities, food, and the opportunity to meet the players and coaches.
Head Coach Eric Gibree thanked the town for coming out, especially the fundraising coordinators and the 401 Jeep club for helping with the parade.
“The turnout today was absolutely fantastic, it was great to see the town,” he said.
He added the town had come out in “full force” over the last months to support the team via donations and watch parties.
“I think the kids had a great time,” Gibree said. “I think everybody had a great time.”
“There has been so much energy generated in our community over the last several weeks by the success of these young athletes,” Town Manager Randy Rossi said. “Watching them on television has been the highlight of the summer for so many.”
