SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Smithfield Police Department said they arrested a man in connection to an armed robbery last week.

According to police, they arrested 35-year-old Jonathan Rivera of Providence and charged him with first-degree robbery.

Court documents said on Saturday morning, police responded to a call for an armed robbery at the “3 on 7 Fuel and Convenience” store at 351 Douglas Pike.

The clerk told police a man brandishing a knife took cash and cigarettes from behind the counter before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.

Investigators later recovered the bike used in the robbery, hidden at the Alpine Motel, on the same stretch of Douglas Pike.

Further investigation lead to a search warrant executed on room 21 which contained further evidence of the crime.

Rivera was held overnight and was arraigned in Third District Court where he is being held without bail.

A pre-arraignment conference court date was set for June 22.
