Smithfield Police searching for suspect connected to Thursday bank robbery
The suspect is described as a light-skinned male, possibly white or Hispanic, around 5'6" tall, with a thin build.
SMITHFIELD, RI (WLNE) – Police in Smithfield are searching for a man suspected of robbing the Navigant Credit Union on Putnam Pike Thursday.
Police say they responded to the bank around 11:48 a.m.
Initial reports indicated that the suspect was a man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and a face mask. After leaving the bank the suspect was seen heading west after demanding money from the bank teller.
Police say they checked the area after arriving on the scene but didn’t find the suspect.
According to the bank clerk, the man approached the counter, handed the clerk a light-colored nylon bag, and told the clerk to put “100s, 50s, and 20s in the bag.”
The suspect then grabbed the bag and fled on foot, according to police.
The suspect is described as a light-skinned male, possibly white or Hispanic, around 5’6″ tall, with a thin build.
He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt over a light-colored baseball cap, a blue surgical type face mask, jeans, white sneakers, and blue rubber gloves.
The suspect is seen on surveillance running west toward an apartment complex.
