Smithfield settles in after opening day win at Little League World Series
WILLIAMSPORT, P.A. (WLNE) — The Smithfield Little League team is getting their swings right for Friday’s matchup with Tennessee in the World Series in Pennsylvania.
The team practiced Thursday while enjoying their historic win against Nevada.
The Rhode Island boys played the biggest game of their lives in front of 4,000 people at Lamade Stadium in Williamsport. The nerves didn’t phase them as they scored a 3-1 victory.
Connor Curtis is the talk of the town after his 15 strikeout performance.
“Now that we’re on the big stage, it’s just another game,” he said to media after the win.
His teammate, Connor Queenan, shared the sentiment.
“It’s crazy knowing you have your whole town behind you, your whole state, and now your whole region behind you,” he said.
The next game is set for 3 p.m. and can be watched on ESPN.
The Trap North in Smithfield will again hold a watch party for the community to cheer on the boys from home.
