Smithfield takes the field at Little League World Series
WILLIAMSPORT, P.A. (WLNE) — The Smithfield Little League took the field at the World Series in Pennsylvania on Wednesday.
ABC 6’s Ian Steele caught up with Rhody boys in Williamsport.
“Yeah, that was fantastic, kids were excited, place was jumpin’, it’s cool to see everybody come out with their state flags, yeah, that was pretty special,” said Manager Eric Gibree.
He said the butterflies are kicking up for the team as the time runs out until the first pitch.
“We’re ready to play right now,” Gibree told ABC 6.
The Trap North in Smithfield will hold a watch party for the first game, which is set for 3 p.m. on ESPN.
The town has rallied around the team, fundraising for their trip to Williamsport with a pep rally at Deerfield Park and Laura’s Bar and Grill offering special green and gold drinks.
The boys thanked the folks back home with a video message on social media, saying, “We’re going to make Smithfield and Rhode Island proud. Let’s go, Smithfield!”
