Snowy mix to rain late tonight
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — No travel issues through early evening, but snow reduces visibility and creates some slippery spots by late evening.
Most of Rhode Island will see a slushy coating to an inch of a snowy mix overnight.
This storm will move out of the mid-west today and arrive tonight with snow/wintry mix before mild air in mid levels of the atmosphere wins out and gives us a mix to rain by dawn on Saturday Lighter rain showers / drizzle will switch to snow showers and flurries as the storm pulls away and a northerly wind brings in colder air by midday Saturday. Expect a blustery, cold day. We begin to dry out Saturday afternoon and evening.
Look for Jupiter and Venus low in the west right after sunset now through the weekend. They’re in conjunction (very close to each other) and will appear very bright on the horizon. Best days/times are this evening with clearing, Saturday evening, and Sunday and Monday evenings. Here’s a great view from the Malidives thanks to Petr Horálek.
Right now, we’re tied for 3rd place for the least snowy winter!
We’re counting down to astronomical spring. Meteorological spring begins today as the spring months are March, April, and May.
