PROVIDENCE (WLNE)- Green Development LLC, a Rhode Island-based renewable energy developer, intends to file lawsuits against the towns of Exeter and Coventry, the company announced Thursday.

The company is seeking $85 million in damages from Coventry and $200 million from Exeter, claiming “town individuals have not only deprived Green of their development rights…but have also interfered with [its] development interests in other Rhode island communities.”

“There has been a long and tortured path to get to this point and unfortunately we have no other recourse but to file this action,” said Bill Fischer, a company spokesperson. “Green has expended millions of dollars in Coventry and Exeter and the actions of certain individuals have unnecessarily brought projects to a standstill.”

According to its statement, the company has served notice to every elected official and town officer in both towns.

Aside from serving notice of the lawsuit, the letters demands that the towns preserve applicable evidence and to satisfy its Access to Public Records requests.

A request for comment from representatives of the two towns was not immediately returned.

The North Kingstown-based company currently has a solar farm project in development in North Smithfield, according to a prior statement.
