Some colleges in Rhode Island plan for virtual commencements amid COVID-19 pandemic
PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE-TV) – Rhode Island Colleges and Universities are holding virtual commencements due to Covid-19 and social distancing guidelines.
Brown University, Rhode Island College (RIC), and University of Rhode Island (URI) are all hosting virtual commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2020.
Brown scheduled their ceremony for Sunday, May 24. RIC will be holding theirs on Saturday, May 16, and URI on Sunday, May 17.
All three have said that they plan on holding in-person ceremonies at some point in the future.
Providence College is following suit, conferring degrees virtually on Sunday, May 17. However, they have already scheduled an in-person commencement ceremony on Oct. 31 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
