PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The price of a gallon of regular gas has risen past $5 in some parts of Rhode Island, GasBuddy reported.

As of Sunday, the lowest price in the state was $4.55 per gallon, with the highest at $5.39 per gallon. The national average stands at $4.85 per gallon.

The hike in gas prices doesn’t look to improve drastically anytime in the near future, GasBuddy warned.

“Nine states have average gas prices that stand beyond the $5 per gallon mark, with more set to join in the days and weeks ahead,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

“It now appears not if, but when, we’ll hit that psychologically critical $5 national average,” added De Haan.
