Some RI State Beaches to Open This Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – In a sure sign that summer is almost here, Rhode Island is opening some state beaches on a limited basis.

The state Department of Environmental Management announced Tuesday that Scarborough North and Roger Wheeler beaches in Narragansett, Misquamicut State Beach in Westerly and Goddard
Memorial State Park beach in Warwick will open on Saturdays and Sundays only from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

All state beaches are scheduled to open daily starting Memorial Day.

The beach at Lincoln Woods State Park will open on a daily basis, weather permitting, beginning May 14.

The state is proposing raising parking fees for state beaches, but people who buy their daily or season passes before the new fees take effect in early June will get the 2010 rate.
