Somerset man accused of stealing over $100K indicted on numerous charges

SOMERSET, Mass. (WLNE) — A Somerset man who was accused of stealing over $100,000 from his customers was indicted on several theft related charges.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office said that 36-year-old Eli Rego was charged with the following:

  • Larceny by false pretense
  • Larceny of over $1,200 by single scheme
  • Identity fraud
  • Failure to provide worker’s compensation
  • Money laundering
  • Larceny by false pretense over $1,200
  • Intimidation of a witness
  • Two counts of larceny under $1,200
  • Two counts of tax evasion
  • Four counts of larceny over $1,200

District Attorney Timothy Cruz said that Rego had been operating a phony business and stole money from customers in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

He was accused of using the stolen funds to pay for luxury items and vacations.

Rego will be arraigned in super court at a later date.
