A two-and-a-half-year veteran of the Somerset Police department passed away suddenly on Saturday night.

Patrolman B.J. Voss, 35, was with family in Warwick around 6:00 Saturday night when he suddenly collapsed. He was sent to Keny County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Voss was a Somerset resident, and leaves behind his wife and two sons, ages 8 and 13.

Voss had just gotten off of a 15-hour shift before he collapsed. Chief Joseph Ferreira, who has known Voss for years, described him as “an extraordinary family man and a truly dedicated hard worker who loved his family, his friends, his job, and the Town of Somerset. His life's ambition was to be a police officer and we were extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him, and get to know him as a great person. He was tenacious in performing his duties in the most respectful and professional manner.”

Funeral arrangements will be announced once they are made.
