Even before the store opened at 7 AM Wednesday anxious shoppers were already being welcomed into the new Market Basket in South Attleboro. The long delayed grand opening is scheduled for 9 AM.

The location had been sitting in limbo for almost a year since construction on it was finished last March. The opening was delayed when the super market chain’s popular CEO was fired. The ousting prompted protests and walkouts. The standoff finally came to an end over the summer.

The South Attleboro location is the 4th store to open since that time. It brought with it 500 new jobs of which about 450 went to new, local employees, according to Store Manager Frank Parreria.

“I met with the Mayor, Mr. Dumais, and the most asked question of 2014 for the staff at city hall was when is Market Basket opening? That’s the excitement. So I’m excited about coming into a community that’s really going to take us and enjoy more for your dollar here in South Attleboro,” he said.

Arthur T.  DeMoulas, or Artie T., the beloved boss who many fought to keep, is expected to say a few works at the ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for 9 AM.
