South Kingstown police chief retires after 57 years

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. — After 57 years in law enforcement, the state’s longest serving police chief is retiring.

Tuesday was the last day on the job for South Kingstown Police Chief Vincent Vespia.

Vespia began his career with the State Police then briefly joined the Coventry Police Department as Acting Chief and went back to the State Police where he retired in 1981.

From there, Vespia became chief in his hometown of South Kingstown where he has remained for 35 years.
