Southcoast Health will lay off 95 employees

By News Staff

Southcoast Health has announced that it will lay off 95 employees throughout the system due to financial reason.

In a letter to employees, President Keith Hovan stated the actions come following a $30 million loss in 2014 and a 6 percent increase in expenditures during the first half of this fiscal year.

Southcoast Health Systems manages Charlton Memorial Hospital, St. Lukes Hospital, and Tobey Hospital.

The company did not say exactly what parts of the company would be affected by the layoffs.

A spokesperson say the layoffs are in no way connected to the potential merger with Care New England.
