Sox Catcher Victor Martinez Suffers Bruised Toe
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Boston catcher Victor Martinez left Monday night's game against Tampa Bay with a bruised toe after being struck on the left foot by a foul ball.
Martinez was injured in the second inning when Jason Bartlett's foul tip hit him on the big toe.
He remained in the game while Bartlett struck out to end the inning. Martinez was removed after drawing a third-inning walk and having difficulty trotting up the first base line.
Backup catcher Jason Varitek replaced Martinez as a pinch runner and remained in the game defensively.
