BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today concluded their participation in Major League Baseball's 2010 First-Year Player Draft with 20 additional selections in rounds 31-50. Red Sox Director of Amateur Scouting Amiel Sawdaye made the announcement.

Over three days of the draft, Boston selected 26 pitchers (22 right-handers, four left-handers), nine infielders, 10 outfielders and seven catchers. Of the 52 players drafted, 33 are from high school and are 19 from college.

Among today's picks was shortstop Nicholas Robinson, nephew of Red Sox amateur scout Jim Robinson. Selected in the 39th round out of North Central College in Illinois, Robinson played in 42 games for the Cardinals this season and ranked among College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin leaders in batting (2nd, .427), runs (T-2nd, 56) and hits (3rd, 76).

The club also took Tiverton, RI native Zach Kapstein in the 44th round. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Kapstein hit .603 (41-for-68) with five homers and 22 RBI while stealing 24 bases in as many attempts. He is the nephew of Red Sox Senior Advisor for Baseball Projects Jeremy Kapstein.

The Red Sox drafted two other players with New England ties. In the 38th round, the club selected outfielder Thomas Bourdon, a native of Simsbury, CT, from Northwest Catholic High School. Mattapoisett, MA native Trygg Larsson-Danforth was selected in the 49th round out of Yale University.

The club dedicated its 2010 First-Year Player Draft to long-time Red Sox scout and former Major League pitcher Jerry Stephenson, who passed away at the age of 66 on Sunday, June 6.
