Sox Recall Aceves From Pawtucket, Send Atchison Down

RED SOX RECALL RIGHT-HANDED PITCHER ALFREDO ACEVES

 

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-handed pitcher Alfredo Aceves from Triple-A Pawtucket.  He will be active for tonight's game against the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park, wearing No. 91.

 

The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein.

 

Aceves, 29, will be in his second stint with the Red Sox this season.  He posted a 2.25 ERA (2 ER/8.0 IP) with five strikeouts over six relief outings with Boston from April 8-20.  The right-hander has made two starts with the PawSox this season, going 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA (5 ER/8.0 IP) and six strikeouts.  Signed by Boston as a free agent on February 9, Aceves has a 14-1 career record with two saves and a 3.16 ERA (47 ER/134.0 IP) in 65 Major League games (five starts) over parts of four seasons with the Yankees (2008-10) and Red Sox (2011).
