PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Rhode Island's House speaker has announced new chairmen for the finance and judiciary committees.

Speaker Nicholas Mattiello on Wednesday named Democratic Rep. Raymond Gallison Jr. as chairman of the powerful Finance Committee. Co-vice chairmen will be Democratic Reps. Agostinho Silva and John Carnevale.

Mattiello also named Democratic Rep. Cale Keable as chairman of the Judiciary Committee. The vice chair will be Republican Rep. Doreen Costa.

Mattiello was comfortably elected speaker Tuesday after the abrupt resignation of Gordon Fox. Fox's Statehouse office and home were raided by federal and state authorities last week. Authorities have not made clear what the investigation is about or whom it is targeting.

Other committee chairmanships are expected to be announced this week.
