A special needs Providence Middle School student says a teacher’s aide smacked him over the head with a book and hit him with a ruler.

12-year-old Jovanny Green says the incident happened Wednesday at DelSesto Middle School.

His mother, Jeanne Andreoli says she couldn’t believe it at first and did question her son to make sure she understood exactly what happened.

“He demonstrated to me with a book. And, he slammed it on his head and said this is what happened to me and it hurt,” said Andreoli.

Once she heard this, Andreoli immediately filed a police report.

“Now that I hear this I’m starting to wonder about it. And wonder how long has this been going on. He was in her classroom last year. Is he just finally disclosing something that has been going on a long time,” said Andreoli.

Jovanny tells ABC 6 News this isn’t the first time he’s had an issue with this aide.

Providence Public Schools released the following statement on the alleged assault: Providence Schools takes very seriously any allegation of harm to a child. We are investigating this matter and will take appropriate action both internally and in cooperation with the Providence Police Department.
