Spieth, Kuakumensah Lead Brown Men’s Basketball To Win Over Penn

Brown Completes Season Sweep Over Penn, 76-67

Philadelphia, PA – Freshman Steven Spieth scored 19 points and grabbed a
career high 12 rebounds to lead Brown to a 76-67 Ivy League win over
Penn to complete their first sweep over the Quakers since 2008.

assures itself of a winning season and improves to 15-10 overall and
7-4 in the Ivy League, maintaining third place in the Ivy standings.
Penn falls to 7-17 overall and 4-6 in Ivy play.

Spieth connected on 6-of-12 field goals and 6-of-7 free throws in posting his first career double-double.

Cedric Kuakumensah also registered a double-double for the Bears with
16 points and 10 rebounds.   The Ivy League's Defensive Player of the
Year a year ago, Kuakumensah also blocked four shots. Senior Sean
McGonagill, the Ivy League's second leading scorer, chipped in with 13
points and seven assists.

Bears welcomed back junior forward Rafael Maia, the Ivy League's top
rebounder, who missed the last two games due to injury.  He responded
with 10 rebounds and six points. 

Quakers were led by Tony Hicks, who scored a game high 25 points on
10-of-24 shooting from the field.  Fran Dougherty posted a double-double
with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

37-33 at the half, Brown opened up a 13 points lead, 58-45, with 11:00
remaining on a McGonagill trey.  Freshman Steven Spieth gave the Bears
their biggest lead, 67-51, on a back-door layup with 4:20 left in the

Quakers made a late run at the Bears, pulling as close as five points,
72-67, with 24 seconds remaining on a Dougherty field goal..

Spieth iced the game by hitting six-of six free down the stretch. 

Bears lead by as many as 10 points in the opening half, 24-14, on layup
by junior Dockery Walker with 9:36 left.  Penn cut the Brown lead to
just two points, 28-28, with five minutes remaining on a trey by Tony

concludes its four-game road trip tomorrow evening (Saturday),
traveling to Princeton, New Jersey to battle Princeton.  Tip-off is 6 pm
at Jadwin Gumnasium.
