St. Mary Academy – Bay View class of 2020 holds social distancing graduation

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – St. Mary Academy – Bay View in East Providence didn’t let social distancing get in the way of their graduation.

Instead, families stayed in their cars listening to the ceremony over the radio while parked on campus.

Since 1874, St. Mary Academy has been a leader in all-girl education. Sunday 87 members of the class of 2020 graduated.

Valedictory addresses were given by Nicole Baalbaki of Pawtucket and Ishita Rai of Warwick.

Bay View President, Sister Marybeth Beretta offered the following remarks during the ceremony, “What inspires me about our Mercy community is that we meet our most demanding moments with courage, resolve, and a selfless concern for others.  I’m so proud of the countless ways that our graduating class has responded to the Covid-19 crisis by rising to every challenge and accepting every disappointment with resilience and grace.  Their many talents, undaunted spirit, and sense of responsibility give me great confidence for the future of a world that needs the conviction and compassion of students grounded in Mercy values.”

All graduates have been accepted to and plan on attending college in the fall.
