PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The dome of the Rhode Island State House will be illuminated tonight to kick off Brain Cancer Awareness Month.

The dome will be lit up in the the Rhode Island Brain and Spine Tumor Foundation’s purple and yellow colors each night through May 6.

According to the foundation, Rhode Island has one of the highest diagnosis rates for brain cancer in the country, with over 200 diagnoses each year.

The foundation, which was founded in 2008, provides support to patients and families via support groups and financial assistance, as well as raising funds that go towards research into brain and spinal cancers.

Throughout the month of May, the Warwick Police Department will be selling patches to support the foundation and its mission.
