State police investigating fatal pedestrian accident

SMITHFIELD, R.I (WLNE) – Rhode Island State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident.

State Police tell ABC6 News a 62-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by a car on Interstate 295 Monday night.

First responders were called to the area of Exit 15, Route 7 around 6:47 PM.

The operator of the vehicle that hit the victim did stop and is cooperating with police.

On Monday morning, State Police identified the victim as 62-year-old Lori Mollicone of Johnston.

Police say she was hit in the center lane of 295 North near the George Washington Highway overpass.

Mollicone was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges at this time, but State Police say the accident remains under investigation.
