Providence man accused of fighting arrested at Ballard’s on Block Island

NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Police said that a Providence man accused of fighting was arrested at Ballard’s Beach Resort Monday.

The fight happened at about 6:30 p.m. at Ballard’s. Video obtained by ABC 6 News shows multiple men swinging punches at each other in the middle of the outdoor bar scene.

Because of the state observed holiday and the festival being held at the popular bar, state troopers were assigned specifically to patrol the area around Ballard’s.

State police said on Tuesday that 30-year-old Jacob Dorbor of Providence was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Dorbor is scheduled to be seen in Fourth District Court at a later date.

“During Monday’s summer music event at Ballard’s we are aware of only one altercation that occurred, which our security staff promptly stopped.  Ballard’s closed its operations at 6 pm, several hours before the last ferry left Block Island,” Ballard’s owner Steve Filippi said in a statement.

Also Monday, state police said a fight broke out  on an unscheduled ferry that had no troopers on it.

It’s unclear at this time if both incidents are connected.
