State Police seize 15 pounds of pot after traffic stop


WEST  GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE)– A West Warwick man is facing drug and weapons charges after Rhode Island State Police pulled him over on motor vehicle violations in West Greenwich early Wednesday morning.

In a statement, police said they observed 49-year-old Yong Zhuang Chen committing several several traffic violations on Route 95 just before 3 a.m.

A search of Chen’s vehicle led to the seizure of 15 pounds of marijuana and a knife with a blade measuring 8 1/2 inches.

Chen was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana in Excess of 5 Kilograms, and Possession of a Knife during the commission of crime.

Chen was arraigned at Kent County District Court and held without bail, according to the statement.
