Rhode Island Senate committee to consider funding costs for new Warwick high schools

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Rhode Island Senate committee will consider new Warwick high schools on Tuesday afternoon.

The Warwick School Committee has been working on plans to build new Pilgrim and Toll Gate high schools.

If the bill passes the Senate, then the house would have to pass it before the city would be allowed to take out bonds to cover some of the costs.

The project would likely cost around $350 million, with the state covering $150 million of that.

Voters would be making the final decision in November, should the bill pass. There would be a question on the city’s ballots to approve going forward with the project.
