Stonington police officer in stable after being hit by car

STONINGTON, Conn. (WLNE) — A police officer in Connecticut had to be flown to the hospital Monday after being hit by a car.

The crash happened just after 11 a.m. on Route 184 at Taugwonk Road in Stonington. The officer involved was identified as Sgt. Mario Ritacco.

Deputy Chief Todd Olson said a car hit a parked police cruiser, who was on a road work job. It wasn’t immediately known if Ritacco was inside or outside of the cruiser.

Police said Route 184 was shut down after the crash.

Officials said Ritacco is currently stable at Rhode Island Hospital.
