Stop & Shop President stepping down

QUINCY, MASSACHUSETTS (WLNE) – The President of Stop and Shop will be leaving after 30 years with the company.

Stop and Shop announced Tuesday that Mark McGowan, made the decision to the leave the organization.

Gordon Reid will be replacing McGowan.

Reid is the President of Giant Food, which is another grocery chain located in the greater Washington, D.C. area.

This news comes after an 11-day strike in April where more 31,000 employees walked off the job.

Stop and Shop reported they lost over $110 million during the 11-day strike.

“As Stop & Shop embarks on the next phase of its transformation, now is the right time for me to make this change,” McGowan said.

Reid will become President of Stop & Shop in late July and will begin transitioning into his new role in the coming weeks.

McGowan will remain with Stop & Shop till the end of the year, at the company’s request, to ensure a seamless transition.
