Family of people killed in bridge crash to sue RI
The family members of two people killed in a head on crash on the Claiborne Pell Bridge plan to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the state of Rhode Island.
The families of Kenny Prior of Jamestown and Kathy Meunier of Warwick will file a wrongful death lawsuit in Superior court against the state, the Department of Transportation, and the Rhode Island Bridge and Turnpike Authority.
The families say that the soon-to-be defendants intentionally failed to address the lack of median barriers on the bridge. The families claim that according to minimum industry safety requirement bride with more than 20,000 daily passengers are required to have median barriers.
Prior and Meunier were killed when driving home from work at Naval Station Newport and a teen driver crossed into their lanes and struck their vehicle head on. Meunier, the driver, died instantly. Prior died several hours later.
