A small single engine, six seat Cherokee Six plane with six passengers on board crashed on to a field in Block Island on Saturday evening.

The plane burst into flames when it crashed into the woods on Center Road, causing the fire to spread on the field.

Police identified the pilot as 53-year-old Louis Telesford.

Officials say the pilot had misjudged the landing and attempted to take off again.

Telesford and the passengers were able to exit the aircraft. All the occupants were evaluated and released with minor injuries
