PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Care New England announced Wednesday that jobs are being cut at several of its hospitals.

The group isn’t saying yet how many people are being let go, but the layoffs do include both clinical and non-clinical staff.

The vast majority are at Women and Infants Hospital.

There are also some at Butler, Kent, and the VNA of Care New England.

The announcement comes a week after Care New England said it’s planning to merge with Partners Healthcare of Massachusetts and is looking into selling Memorial Hospital.

Care New England said the layoffs are unrelated to those plans.
