PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – A Former Narragansett Police Officer was sentenced to federal prison Friday on charged of transferring sexually obscene material to an underage girl.
Matthew Riley, 52, of Narragansett, was sentenced to serve 21 months in prison after admitting to engaging in sexually explicit discussions with a 15-year-old girl and sending her explicit photos of himself.
Riley told the Court that, beginning in 2015 or 2016, he engaged in a series of sexually explicit and graphic conversations with a 15-year-old girl via social media and text messaging.
The U.S. Attorney’s office said Riley admitted that the girl informed him repeatedly of her age, and messaged her under the guise of “Chris M.”, a 29-year-old Boston man who was supposedly in the Navy and worked as a physical therapist.
Riley admitted that his messages to the underage girl included graphic, sexually explicit pictures of himself and videos of himself committing a sex act.
At sentencing, Riley was ordered to serve 3 years supervised release upon completion of his time served, and was ordered to register as a sex offender.
In addition, Riley must pay an undetermined amount of restitution to the victim and her family.
