PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) - RI's E-911 acting director, Gregory Scungio, has been relieved of duty.

Col. James M. Manni, Superintendent of the RI State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, announced today that Scungio had been relieved of duty.

State police learned Scungio was training RI 911 operators in Basic First Aid, CPR, and AED without proper certification.

Scungio was previously certified however his certification expired in February 2016, according to state police.

Therefore, any employees trained by Scungio since that time do not have valid certification.

Scungio, who has been serving as acting director of the E-911 communications center, was reassigned to another position.

RI State Police Lt. Michael McGlynn has been assigned as the Acting Director of E-911, Manni said.
