PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) - The Providence Police department said a homeless man was struck and killed by a vehicle when he was sleeping on the roadway early Sunday morning. 

According to the department, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene after striking the victim. 

The victim was identified as a 61-year-old and was  pronounced dead on the scene and his name has not been released at this time. 

The Providence Police Department Traffic Bureau is asking anybody with any possible information to each out to them.
