Documents related to Boston's Bunker Hill Monument for sale
BOSTON (AP) - Documents related to the Battle of Bunker Hill and Boston's Bunker Hill Monument, including correspondence from Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and others is being offered for sale by a Philadelphia documents dealer.
Nathan Raab, president of the Raab Collection, says the archive of nearly 400 pieces , many unpublished, shows the efforts to build the monument to one of the great battles of the Revolutionary War.
The collection also includes letters written by soldiers who participated in the June 17, 1775 conflict, documents used to raise funds and support for the monument, and financial documents relating to its creation. Construction began 50 years after the battle.
Raab says the collection has been privately owned for generations and is being offered to the public for the first time.
The archive goes on sale Thursday for $200,000.
