Pilot of Seaplane that overturned in Watchaug Pond Identified
CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE): The Rhode Island Department Of Environmental Management believes the pilot forgot to raise his wheels, which caused a plane to overturn on Watchaug Pond on Saturday evening around 5 p.m.
The pilot of the seaplane has been identified as Bryant Hassett, 27. The plane is registered in Connecticut to a man named Mark Simmons. The passenger is Simmon's 16-year-old son, according to the D.E.M.
There were no injuries.
The flight originated at Westerly Airport. The D.E.M. does not believe there was any significant leak of aviation fuel.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
