PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) - An elderly man was stabbed in his home Sunday after he asked his house guest for help folding laundry.

Around 3:00 p.m. Sunday police were called to an apartment home on Washington Street for a report of a man refusing to leave.

Andrew Dolliver, 69, answered the door and told police to come into his apartment, according to a police report.

When police entered the apartment, they saw a male standing in the kitchen.

The male was soon identified as Edward Liriano, 24.

Dolliver told police that he and Liriano had an argument about folding laundry which led to Liriano cutting Dolliver on his arm with a pocket knife, police say.

After Liriano was taken into custody by Providence police, they conducted a thorough search of Liriano.

Police found a blue folding pocket knife in Liriano’s pocket and a BB gun in his backpack.

Police also found 2 clear plastic bags containing a white substance, 2 clear plastic bags containing a brown substance, and a white unmarked bottle containing an unknown substance.

The 4 clear bags are believed to be drugs, according to police.

Dolliver was treated on scene and will be ok.

Liriano is being charged with assault on a person older than 60 and felony assault.

Liriano was released on bail after being arraigned Monday and is due back in court Nov. 4.
