PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) - Mayor of Providence, Jorge Elorza will be part of the Walking School Bus Program, welcoming students to the first day of school on Tuesday. 

Mayor Elorza will be joined by Mary E. Fogarty Elementary School Principal, Courtney Montercy, and volunteer members of family Service of Rhode Island (FSRI). 

The Walking School Bus is a program offered to the school in partnership with FSRI that brings students along a designated route to join their peers in walking to school for the day. 

After students complete the route, students will return to the school to visit their classrooms. 

Mayor Elorza will also be joining Superintendent Dr. Frances Gallo and Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green at additional locations throughout the day. 

The walk starts at 7:45 a.m
