NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) - Multiple crews responded to the area of Steamboat Ave. early Tuesday morning. 

Heavy smoke was still present hours after the fire broke out around 4 a.m. This later turned into a 3rd alarm fire.

Firefighters say that they saw smoke coming from the upper floors of the building, which made it difficult to extinguish. 

Crews from North Kingstown, Narragansett, East Greenwich, West, West Warwick, South Kingstown, and Exeter responded to assist with extinguishing this fire. 

Residents in the area say that two family businesses are located inside the engulfed building. 

There is no indication at this time what started the fire.

No injuries have been reported as a result of this fire at this time.

Streets remain closed in the Polar Point area at this time as crews still work to extinguish this fire.
