ORANGE, Mass. (AP) _ Workers are trying to remove methane from a tanker truck that overturned in a crash that killed the driver on a northern Massachusetts highway.

Authorities say Route 2 in Orange was expected to remain closed in both directions for several more hours Saturday.

The tanker crashed through a guardrail and rolled down an embankment Friday night.

State police say they will not identify the driver until after relatives are notified.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation.

Officials say it's not clear whether all the gas can be transferred to another truck.

If it can't, workers will slowly release any remaining methane into the air.

The area near the crash site was evacuated, but officials later determined the scene to be safe.

Hazardous materials experts are monitoring the situation.
