LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) - The single-car crash on Route 146 resulting in a fatality has been identified.

Rhode Island State Police say that around 8:29 a.m., members of the Lincoln Woods Barracks responded to a report of a single-car, more vehicle crash.

The crash was on Route 146 south, south of Breakneck Hill Road, in Lincoln. 

At the crash, troopers were accompanied by individuals of the Lincoln Police and Fire.

After further review, the police state the operator of the vehicle was a Woonsocket man, Eric Sampson, 42.

Sampson appeared not to be wearing a seat belt, resulting in his death after the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

At this time the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
