PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE): A driver hit a telephone pole, snapping it in half,  and then left the scene on Sunday morning, according to Providence Police. 

The car hit the pole around 2:15 a.m. in the area of 139 Alverson Street. The driver left the scene when Police arrived. 

The impact of the crash caused the pole to snap in half. National Grid was on scene and made repairs. 

Police say the car is registered to a Providence resident but are not releasing his name. They tried to contact him but have not spoken to him yet. 

This is still under investigation.
