Gunfire strikes 3 homes in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) - Providence Police detectives are investigating three separate shootings that occurred within hours of each other on Sunday night.
The first shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. on Public Street. According to police, gunshots were fired into the rear of an apartment building. A resident told police he was lying on his bed when he heard two loud bangs come from outside his room.
Police observed four bullet holes on the outside of the building leading into a bedroom. Police located five shell casings on Saratoga Street directly in the rear of the residence. Inside of the residence police also located one projectile in the hallway and one projectile in a bedroom.
Then, around 8:30 p.m., police responded to another report of shots fired on Congress Ave. The caller told police she and her family were watching TV when they heard two loud bangs coming from outside of the house. When she opened her back door she observed a bullet hole through her door leading to the balcony.
Police found three casings outside in the street. Officers also located three spent 25 caliber cartridge cases in the street in front of the residence. These cartridge cases were determined to be the same caliber and brand used in the house on Public Street.
Finally, at 11:35 p.m., police were dispatched to Hamilton Street for another shooting. Police report the resident was woken up by the sound of gunfire. Police observed several gunshot holes in the second floor and third floor of the residence.
Through investigation, detectives were able to obtain security video which detailed the incident. Police located 21 spent shell casings, and also one live round directly in the front of the Hamilton Street residence.
The investigation remains ongoing.
